Craft beer steeped in history
Thames Ditton Brewers began with a simple idea: to celebrate the history and character of Thames Ditton through craft beer.
The village has a rich past and, until the early 20th century, it even had its own brewery. Dawes & Co, located on Giggs Hill Green, was the last known independent brewery in the village, operating until 1906.
More than a century later, local neighbours Paul and Gareth co-founded Thames Ditton Brewers with the aspiration of bringing a small part of that brewing spirit back to the village.
The idea for the business was first discussed over coffee at one of the village’s historic institutions, the Thames Ditton Lawn Tennis Club, founded in 1882 and the oldest lawn tennis club on its original site.
Today, the business continues under Paul’s stewardship, working with specialist brewing partners to produce a range of craft beers inspired by stories from the Thames and the surrounding area - from Tudor ghosts at Hampton Court Palace to the village’s motoring and audio engineering heritage.
Each beer tells a story.

CRAFT BEERS STEEPED IN HISTORY
Screaming Queen
IPA – 5%
Hampton Court Palace is home to many ghost stories, but none more famous than that of the “Screaming Queen.”
Catherine Howard, the fifth wife of Henry VIII, married the king in 1540. Within little more than a year, accusations of infidelity sealed her fate. Condemned by the king she once adored, Catherine was arrested and held at Hampton Court while her fate was decided.
Legend tells that upon learning she was to be executed, she broke free from her guards and ran desperately along the palace’s Haunted Gallery, screaming and pleading for Henry VIII to spare her life.
Her cries went unanswered.
According to palace folklore, her ghost still wanders Hampton Court to this day — forever reliving that final desperate run through the gallery.
Screaming Queen IPA is inspired by this dramatic chapter of local Tudor history.

Henry's Ait
Amber Alert – 4.5%
Henry’s Ait, the small island on the Thames beside Thames Ditton, has long been woven into the folklore of the river.
Local legend suggests the Ait first began to take shape in Tudor times when spoil from Henry VIII’s improvements to the Thames was deposited in the river. Over time the mound grew into an island, and by the 16th century it had gained a rather mischievous reputation. According to village tales, the island became a lively stopping point where Henry VIII and his companions would pause on their journeys along the river for moments of revelry before returning to court.
Today the island is a peaceful residential spot, connected to the village by its distinctive suspension bridge — but its colourful past still echoes through the local stories that inspired this beer.
Henry’s Ait is our tribute to those riverside tales: a classic British amber bitter, smooth and balanced with traditional English hops and malt.
The Beer
A smooth, balanced amber bitter brewed with traditional English hops and malt varieties. Herbal hop freshness is complemented by a gentle malt sweetness, leading to a clean, pleasantly bitter finish.
Colour: Copper / Dark Amber

Ace Pilsner
Craft Lager – 4.5%
Thames Ditton has long been known for more than just its riverside charm. For much of the 20th century, the village was home to AC Cars, one of Britain’s most iconic sports car manufacturers.
Among their most elegant creations was the AC Ace, a lightweight roadster produced between 1953 and 1963. Known for its beautiful lines and racing pedigree, the Ace competed at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, where in 1959 drivers Ted Whiteaway and John Turner steered their AC Ace Bristol to victory in the 2,000cc GT class — finishing seventh overall against far more powerful machines.
Ace Pilsner is inspired by that spirit of craftsmanship and performance — a crisp, refreshing lager that pays tribute to one of Thames Ditton’s most remarkable engineering achievements.
The Beer
A classic pilsner brewed in the German tradition, with an extended cold fermentation period to develop clarity and character. The result is a clean, crisp lager with delicate hop bitterness and a refreshing finish.

Ditton 66
Pale Ale – 4.5%
Thames Ditton has also played a quiet but important role in British music history.
The village was home to Celestion, the renowned loudspeaker manufacturer whose products helped define the sound of modern music. In the 1970s and 80s, one of their most celebrated creations was the Ditton 66, a legendary hi-fi speaker admired by audiophiles for its clarity, depth and beautifully balanced sound.
For many music lovers, the Ditton 66 became the heart of their listening rooms — delivering everything from classical orchestras to rock concerts with remarkable precision.
Ditton 66 Pale Ale takes its inspiration from this local heritage of craftsmanship and sound. Like its namesake speaker, it’s all about balance — delivering flavour, clarity and character in perfect harmony.
The Beer
A bright, easy-drinking pale ale with fresh hop character and a balanced malt backbone. Crisp, refreshing and perfectly tuned for any occasion.
Suggested Food Pairings
Dishes:
Grilled chicken, light curries, fish pie, salads and seafood
Cheeses:
Young cheddar, Gouda, Emmental
Desserts:
Apple crumble, vanilla desserts, light pastries
Limited Edition Stag Porter
Seasonal Porter – 4.6%
Like all our beers, Stag Porter takes its inspiration from a piece of local history.
In the heart of Thames Ditton High Street stands The Old Slaughterhouse, a remarkable building dating back to around 1580 and believed to be the oldest secular building in the village. In the 19th century it became home to Richard “Dickie” Porter, the Royal Deer Catcher.
Porter was responsible for supplying venison to the royal kitchens, capturing deer from the surrounding royal parks. From 1860 until 1921 he lived and worked from the Old Slaughterhouse and the neighbouring butcher’s shop at No.6 High Street — a reminder of a time when royal hunting traditions still shaped life along the Thames.
Stag Porter is our tribute to that chapter of village history: a rich, warming winter beer perfect for the colder months.
The Beer
A contemporary take on a historic London-style porter, brewed with a complex blend of six malts. Expect smooth notes of coffee and dark chocolate, balanced by roasted caramel aromas and a satisfying, warming finish.
